Parts of Abertay University have been affected by flood damage over the weekend, but the University will be open for business as normal.

A valve fitting on a water tank in the roof space of Level 5 of the north wing of the Kydd Building failed on Saturday during maintenance work, releasing an estimated 10,000 litres of water in 15 minutes.

Most of the water flowed down a stairwell and lift-shaft, corridors and toilets have sustained the bulk of the damage. Some teaching areas have been affected, but the University has already made arrangements to relocate teaching and study activities scheduled in these areas.

University staff and contractors are working to restore systems and clean up the mess as quickly as possible. The failed valve has been replaced and the water systems are being restored to normal function.

A University spokesman said: "We have been very lucky, as the damage could have been so much worse. As it is, there will be minimal disruption to our operations, and all staff and students should come in tomorrow as normal."
