Signpost International, a leading Scottish international development agency, is seeking three committed individuals to take part in an exciting internship programme within its headquarters in Scotland. The placements, for between 6-12 months, are designed to give the successful candidates a solid foundation of experience in a small but growing organisation while providing an essential support function to programme staff.
Interns must:
o Commit to working a minimum of 25 hours per week for 6-12 months, including a one-month probationary period.
o Cover own living costs during internship
o Have a demonstrable interest and passion for development work
o Be in sympathy with Signpost International’s Christian values.
o Possess excellent grammatical abilities, a sound knowledge of office-based IT in addition to the necessary skills and attributes as outlined below
o Abide by organisational policies and submit to a standard CRB check
Signpost International will:
o Provide a structured learning experience for the duration of the internship in addition to working with the successful candidate to develop a personal capacity-building road-map
o Provide a daily allowance for lunch and working travel expenses
o If appropriate offer the intern an exposure trip to an overseas development project, the cost of which will be expected to be matched by the intern.
o Offer ongoing roles and opportunities to the successful candidate upon the completion of the internship depending on position availability and candidate suitability.
1. Marketing and PR Intern
Working in conjunction with the PR manager duties may include some or all of the following:
o Development of website content
o Input weekly updates from departments
o Assist in the design and implementation of market research
o Develop digital media presence
o Produce and submit press releases on ad hoc basis
o Produce and implement advertising and promotional strategy
o Assist in the design and production of promotional material
o Compile a monthly e-zine for supporters
o Mobilise and coordinate with area reps as necessary
o Event organising
o Liaise with fundraising committee
o Any other general administration
Experience and characteristics:
o Essential:
o Educated to at least degree level, or equivalent qualification in relevant subject
o Good written and excellent verbal communication skills
o Sound knowledge of digital media
o Computer literate (MS Office programmes)
o Team player and self-motivated, creative independent thinker
o Outgoing personality
o An understanding and sensitivity to cross cultural issues
o Keen interest in international affairs
o Time management skills, the ability to meet deadlines and targets are required
o Desired:
o Relevant post-graduate training
o Experience developing marketing campaigns
